EAR TRAINING
Any music program that's worth taking a look at will have an extensiveear training course. A good ear training course will get you to do five different things.

1.) Identifying Intervals Diatonic and Chromatic
2.) Hearing / Singing Intervals
3.) Working with different types of scales
4.) Identifying Chords -Hearing chord voicings with added tensions as will as the movement of chords via cadences (II-7, V7)
5.) Dictation -Listening to intervals and writing them down The fundamental way to "hear" is to hear intervals.

The best way for a bass player to play his/her instrument well, is to hear intervalicly. Having the abilityto hear and know intervals creates smooth bass lines.
